THE BEST VEGAN PIZZA IN TOWN
I’ve heard about most of the places I wanted to write about through social networks. I arranged most of the interviews through Facebook – I personally love social networks because I see the benefits for my personal, as well as for my business life. But talking with people – both friends and colleagues – I’ve realized that many of them avoid and steer clear of this truly useful tool. So when I asked the pizzaiolo of the Veloce pizzeria in Dubrava where they got the idea for vegan pizza from (which is, BTW, PERFECT!), it was truly refreshing to hear him say: Well, people suggested us that on Facebook.
I have to admit that’s where I’ve heard of them as well, and I was a bit surprised to hear that the pizzeria that offers the best vegan pizza in town (confirmed by vegans, but also non-vegans) happened to be in Dubrava. No hate implied – I was born and raised in that neighborhood, but then I thought – why not? Dubrava has given so much: epic rock bands, one of the best libraries and hospitals in town, successful athletes and business people… why wouldn’t we have the best vegan pizza in town??
And the vegan pizza from Veloce comes truly recommended. Smoked tofu, cherry tomato, and arugula are just one of the ingredients, and the dough is fantastic. “The dough is always made of the same ingredients, but the secret is in the ratios, and that’s what the true masters of the trade know. Of course, in order to be a great pizzaiolo, you have to have a skilled hand and love what you do”, says Marko Brozović, one of the two pizzaiolos. The other one is his brother Luka, while the third brother, Matija, is the owner and in charge of marketing. Their parents also partake in the family business.
“We love what we do and we use the best ingredients; we try to use as many home-made products as possible. That’s the secret of delicious pizzas”, says Marko while we enjoy a vegan pizza fresh out of the oven. They also offer lots of non-vegan pizzas and lasagna, but many non-vegans come to try the vegan pizza. “Many have tried it and they love it. I tried it too, and it’s delicious”, says Marko. The guys thought about dessert as well, and they offer dolce calzone, a dough dessert with mascarpone and Nutella, which the guests love. They have many novelties in store, but they’ll include them in the menu in time.
