HOUSE OF SPICES
Travelling around the world and getting to know new gastronomic customs and trends, we have been introduced to a wide spectrum of tastes – from spices and spice mixes to teas or special blends used in the kitchen. We wanted to bring part of the tastes and scents that enthralled us to Zagreb, so we came up with the idea of opening a spice and tea “boutique” we called the Harissa Spice Store in Masarykova Street in the center of Zagreb, which has offered more than 150 selected kinds of tea and over 250 spices and spice mixes of the highest quality for over three years – say Matija Paskaš and Ana-Marija Petrić, owners of Harissa Spice Store, one of the most scented Zagreb stores.
Harissa offers top-quality products by renowned world producers, such as The Ginger People collection of products made from eco-grown ginger from Fiji, extracts by Nielsen Massey or balsamic vinegars from the Italian Piazza di Modena factory. They take great care of the quality of the products, their storage and packing for the end buyer, and that’s exactly what their buyers – whether they are top chefs or gastronomy lovers – recognize as quality. And the buyers’ wishes depend on the seasons, as far as they see from their experience. – Demand changes from season to season, but spices and teas are equally sought after.
During holiday season, when people are preparing sweet treats, the buyers look for cake spices, and once the first rays of spring sun appear and barbecue season hits off, they look for special marinade blends. Each part of the year is special in its own way, say Matija and Ana-Marija. The first Harissa Spice Store opened in late 2012 in Masarykova, and the other store opened in City Center One West in Zagreb. If you’re more of an online shopper, Harissa is ready for that as well – the entire offer of teas, spices, and the so-called “sweet tooth” section is also available at www.harissa.hr.
