YEAH, RIGHT!

The same way a lot of strangers come to Croatia on a vacation, Iffat and Ayelet had experienced the same way with falling in love with our beautiful landscape. Actually so much that they’ve decided to move from Israel to Zagreb. As they were in the process of moving here, they have started thinking what to do for a living here. As they are both foodies, they have decided to open an Israeli restaurant here in Zagreb.

“Israeli kitchen is based on mostly vegetables and beans, but almost no meat so our kitchen can remind people of a vegetarian place”, they’ve said, while we were waiting for our meal. The meal was made with hummus and shakshuk, with a glass of non-alcoholic almond beverage that is also Israeli speciality.

Some of their food you can see and order from other places, like falafel and hummus. But still some of them like shakshuk had us totally amazed. It kind of reminds you of Croatian meal called Hrvatski đuveč, but there is one alternation, they serve it with an egg. When the food arrived we firstly had to enjoy all those colours and smells of the Israeli kitchen. Like that wasn’t enough, we have literally eaten the entire plate. To the last crumb.

“The one thing not Israeli original is your Lepinja bread. But we are working on getting the pie bread here, a type of Israeli bread”, says Iffat.

After that amazing healthy meal, now comes the time for a dessert. The most exotic thing there seemed to be a dessert called Sahlab, pudding with Rose water, coconut, cinnamon and nuts. They also have this thing that reminds us of our pancakes but apparently it wasn’t it.

I was also curious why have they called their new restaurant that is located in Tkalčićeva 59, “Yeah, right!”. Thankfully there is an interesting story behind that name. When they’ve decided to open a restaurant they have asked their friend that is from here but lives in Israel, how should they call their new restaurant? As she asked here husband if he wants to eat something at the same moment, his reply was “Yeah, right! (of course)”. And I’m sure your reply will be the same when the girls ask you if you want to try something from their restaurant. You won’t make a mistake.
